I love this handmade piece from @lets_make_a_rucku I love this handmade piece from @lets_make_a_ruckus so very much. I love the craftsmanship and the size and the show it’s from. (@schittscreek)
There’s just something about handmade items. Someone spent their time and energy producing something. When we bring that piece into our lives, we’re actually bringing a piece of the maker.
I’ve always been a creator but only recently embraced that I just like to make all kinds of things. I’m not good at all of it but I’ll definitely put effort towards it.

I really am lucky to be able to own things that others have made. 🤍🖤
The pursuit of diversity. I joined this project be The pursuit of diversity. I joined this project because I think there’s a real need for diversity in the quilting world. Yes. There are Black quilters. Many of them. There are also guilds that are quite segregated. It reminds me of church. Black guilds and white guilds. Quilting is steeped with tradition. Often, racism, bigotry, and prejudice are justified by “tradition”. Pursuing diversity helps to write a more inclusive story of quilting. We can continue to tell stories but also embrace and create change.

The best part of doing this quilt along has been actually interacting with many likeminded quilters. Funny...I don’t call myself a quilter. I’m a rule breaker and don’t think I really qualify. 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m just a person who makes quilts sometimes.

I decided to try some new things with the actual quilting of this quilt. It’s mostly straight lines but I didn’t do just a grid. I also have some free motion swirls in the navy section. I loved practicing different techniques and really planning out the quilting. I also decided to go with this @konacotton corn yellow for the binding. I love the pop of excitement. 😆

I hand stitched the binding with big stitches and absolutely love doing this now. I think this will be my go to binding method. I’m so new to quilting that I didn’t even realize I should use a heavier weight thread. I literally used 4 strands of purple thread. Yes. No worries though. I just received some 12 wt Aurifil in 20 different colors so I’m super excited about that.

Details ✨✨✨

Thank you to @mrsporfiria for this great pattern and to @collectivequilts and @meeshquilts. The three of you have lead a great quilt along for a great cause. I’m excited to continue supporting @colorofconnectionquilt.

Doing this @colorofconnectionquilt was such a plea Doing this @colorofconnectionquilt was such a pleasure. It’s part of my first QAL. I learned that I have way too much free time to go slowly. 😆 I’ve also solidified that I prefer pin basting over spray basting. It’s also much better for the environment.
I used @rubystarsociety fabrics that were curated and purchased from @meeshquilts. The top was easy to piece although I wasn’t paying attention the entire time and had to use my handy seam ripper. I’ve also been using the same spool of white @aurifilthread for my last three quilts. 😆

I’ve been a photographer for 15 years even thoug I’ve been a photographer for 15 years even though I barely shoot anymore. The constant moving makes it difficult for me to find new clients and new friends to photograph. I still love it though. I’m not doing much of anything these days so I’ll share this throwback from 2013 when I photographed my nieces. They’ve had a camera shoved in their faces since birth. Literally. 😆
Happy Valentine’s Day. I love love. 🤍 Happy Valentine’s Day. I love love. 🤍
What a week! I’ve been a little under the weathe What a week! I’ve been a little under the weather for the past week but I’m okay. I wasn’t feeling that great early in the week and never really fully got to feeling fabulous but I did work on my Color of Connection Quilt. We’re finishing up week 2 of the QAL.
🪡Our first prompt is to show our sewing space. My husband has graciously let me take over the dining room/kitchen. In fact, he customized a table for me! I love this space because I can be in the sunlight and I can look out at the snow. I don’t have a lot of storage space because this place is temporary but I’m doing my best to stay organized.
🤍The second prompt is to share what changes we’d like to see in the quilting community. This one is tough to share for many reasons. For starters, I’m very new to quilting. I’ve only been quilting for about a year and a half. I also don’t quilt with others. This is mostly due to the pandemic. The first change I’d like to see is for the quilting community to be more open to new things. This craft is very traditional. This is great and brings a lot of connection. It also alienates those who are new and didn’t have it passed down. I’ve definitely found my calling in the modern quilting genre and hope to see it be really accepted and respected. Along with this is the idea that there is a right and wrong way to quilt. I get that there are traditional approaches but things change. Fabrics are better. Thread is better. Styles are different. Secondly, I’d like for quilters to embrace imperfection. There’s a big level of intimidation when it comes to being a new quilter or even a seasoned one. The truth is, I am not a machine. I use a domestic sewing machine to piece and to quilt. My lines might be wobbly. My points might not always match. I find these things refreshing because they show that I made them. I actually love and enjoy the imperfections. They might not win a competition but they’ll definitely win the love of the recipient.
